HAMPSHIRE HILLSIDE HOME

Project: W1495

“The client fully embraced the Arts and Crafts ethos for this project and allowed Witcher Crawford to design all aspects of the new house, including the kitchen, fitted furniture, dining table and chairs, fire surrounds, stained glass windows – even the door knocker. Consequently, this is one of the most cohesive designs we have had the pleasure to complete. We were very pleased to have worked with Zanna Westgate Design, whose soft furnishing and fabric choices complement our designs so successfully.”

Geoff Crawford 2018

This stunning hillside site in rural Hampshire was previously occupied by an interwar house that the new owner intended to refurbish and extend. After weighing up the benefits of thermal efficiency, new technology and VAT considerations with Witcher Crawford, the owner decided to demolish the old building and replace it with a new Art and Crafts house.

Despite its traditional design, the new house employs SIP (Structural Insulated Panel) construction techniques to provide extremely high thermal efficiency. The leaded, metal casement windows enhance the traditional appearance of the house, but are thermally broken double-glazed units, meeting A rating heat loss standards. The house also benefits from MVHR (Mechanical Ventilation Heat Recovery) and air conditioning.
